SonRise Sunday Support Group Call
This Sunday, August 2nd, at 9:00 AM EST, Kelli welcomes back our resident therapist, Dr. Linda McGhee — a clinical psychologist, attorney, speaker, and nationally recognized mental health expert. She’s a compassionate leader dedicated to bridging differences, fostering understanding, and shining light in spaces that need it most.
Test, Don't Guess: What Every Parent Should Know About Assessments for Ourselves and Our Kids
You know something is off — but you can't quite put your finger on it. Or maybe you've been pushing through for years, wondering why certain things feel harder than they should. For yourself. For your child. For your young adult who is trying to find their footing in the world. The answer is simpler than you think: get tested.
Join us as our beloved resident guest expert, Dr. Linda McGhee, walks us through the power of assessments — what they are, why they matter, and how they can unlock a level of understanding that changes everything. Whether you're seeking clarity for yourself or advocating for your child at any age or stage, this conversation will give you the tools, the language, and the confidence to take that next step.
Because guessing costs you time. Knowledge gives you power.
It's time to find out what you're really working with.

Sunday, August 9th, at 9:00 AM EST, join Kelli as she welcomes returning guest, Iyona Blake.
Peace is not the absence of conflict; it is the presence of alignment!
Iyona Blake, Founder of Her Cause, Inc talks about what happens when your priorities get hijacked and your peace gets traded. We often talk about the "cost of living" in economic terms, but what about the emotional, spiritual and mental cost of living out of alignment?
Recapturing your peace requires a decision. Choose alignment over approval and purpose over pressure.

What does it actually look like to raise kids who are grounded, confident, and genuinely happy — without losing your sanity along the way?
Sunday, August 16th, at 9:00 AM EST, join Kelli as she welcomes Craig Barra, a U.S. Navy veteran, cybersecurity and government contracting expert, and father of four daughters — joined by three of his girls for a real, unscripted conversation about parenting with honesty, playfulness, and structure all at once.
Craig calls his approach "Frank, Fun & Firm" — and this session is a rare chance to hear how to put practical tools to use from a dad's perspective and the kids who were raised this way. Expect candor, honesty, laughter, and the kind of practical wisdom that only comes from a family willing to be open about what's actually worked — and what hasn't.

This Sunday, July 12th, at 9:00 AM EST, join Dr. Vikki Johnson and Norm Jones for a heart-forward conversation inspired by the heartbreaking story of Nolan Wells — a young man loved by his community, now at the center of a painful question his family is still waiting to have answered.
We won't be speculating about what happened. We'll be asking something bigger: what does it really take to build a circle around our children so they're never truly alone — not just who surrounds them, but who would go back for them?
This is a conversation about presence, protection, and belonging — for every parent raising a child and wondering if they’re truly seen, truly covered, truly loved by the people closest to them. Come with an open heart. Bring your questions. Let's hold this session together.

This Sunday, July 5, at 9:00 AM EST, Kelli welcomes back our resident therapist, Dr. Linda McGhee to discuss “Breaking Generational Chains: Parenting Free When You Weren't Raised Free”.
True freedom doesn't stop at independence — it starts at home. For many of us, the way we were raised left invisible marks: patterns of control, unspoken trauma, emotional walls, and wounds we never intended to carry into our own parenting. But what if this generation could be the one that finally breaks the cycle? Join us as our resident guest expert, Dr. Linda McGhee, guides us through the transformative work of parenting free - even when freedom wasn't modeled for you.
This is more than a parenting conversation. It's an invitation to do the inner work that liberates not just you, but the children coming behind you. Because the greatest gift you can give your child is a parent who chose to heal.

Join us on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 9:00 AM EST as Kelli welcomes back Dr. Dee Sapp!
Dee Sapp, the Executive Director for The SonRise Project, is also a devoted mother, fierce disability advocate, and living proof that you can champion someone else's greatness without losing your own. For decades, Dee has been on the front lines of raising her son, Lawrence Sapp — a Paralympic athlete who recently competed and won in Barcelona, Spain, representing Team USA. Lawrence, who is autistic and has an intellectual disability, did not get there by accident. He got there because of a mother who refused to accept limitations, fought for inclusion at every turn, and built a support system rooted in love, advocacy, and an unshakeable belief in her son's potential.
But Dee's story is not only Lawrence's story. It is also the story of a woman who learned — sometimes the hard way — that caregivers need care too. In this conversation, Dee brings her whole self: the pride, the exhaustion, the grief, the growth, and the hard-won wisdom that comes from raising a remarkable human being while still becoming one herself.
This conversation is for:
Parents and caregivers of children with disabilities
Anyone who has ever put themselves last
People who love someone on the spectrum and don't know how to cope
Anyone who needs to hear that YOU matter too

When the world is loud, your soul needs a sanctuary. The weight of parenting along with the global instability can be heavy. Many parents fight personal battles for the wellness of their children.

We've all done it — walked into a room carrying the weight of the world and somehow managed to smile, perform, and show up as if everything was perfectly fine.
Unprocessed pain is patient — it will wait. In this episode, we're talking about why we reach for the mask, what it's costing us, and how we begin the courageous journey of taking it off — one honest, authentic moment at a time. Because real healing starts with one simple but powerful choice — the willingness to be seen.

Radical acceptance is a powerful tool and practice. Learning to sit in the "darkness" with your child without immediately jumping to solutions doesn't come easy. Parent self-compassion is about removing the "guilt-cape" and recognizing the value of mental wellness as a parent.
Join The SonRise Project Community and special guest, suicidologist Lexi Cunningham, for an empowering conversation about doing our best not to lean into fear, but to arm ourselves as parents with the language, the tools and radical empathy.

This Sunday, March 1 at 9:00 AM EST, Kelli welcomes back our resident therapist, Dr. Linda McGhee, for a timely and grounding conversation: March Madness & Managing Overwhelm.
It is not easy to step back as your child enters adulthood.
It is not easy to allow space for their journey toward stability.
It is not easy to watch and wait instead of fix and control.
And yet, this season asks parents to redefine their role — without losing themselves in the process.
Dr. Linda, a clinical psychologist, attorney, nationally recognized speaker, and long-standing SonRise contributor, will help us explore:
How overwhelm shows up in the body
Why secrets and silence intensify stress
How to support your adult child without abandoning your own peace
What it means to regulate before you react
If you’ve been feeling stretched…
If you’re holding more than you admit…
If stepping back feels harder than stepping in…
This space is for you.

The unexpected twist? Amid the mess and failings, she discovered a deep relationship with God that transformed her life. That spiritual connection healed her marriage, inspired her to finish her degree after 20 years, turned her home into a haven, awakened her gift for interpreting dreams, and enabled her to hear God’s voice every day.
