Linda Burke
Founder of Becoming More Conscious, Linda started her career in the hospitality industry and spent 10 years as a Meeting Planner in a variety of Washington, DC-based hotel chains. One of her clients approached her about her interest in a different specialty, and in 1994 she began working with IMGB, an executive search firm headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. That began a 20-year-long love affair with headhunting, working on behalf of financial firms and State and Local governments identifying diverse, senior executive-level talent around the country.
After marrying, and having two children, Ms. Burke found herself needing the support of other African American mothers facing the challenges of successfully raising Black children in a society that was unfriendly at best and dangerous at worst. After partnering with her pediatrician, Dr. Cheryl Edmonds, Sistermoms was born in 1999 and continues as an active internet community of mothers of African American children living primarily in Washington, DC, and its suburbs.
Diagnosed with MS in 2005, Ms. Burke continued recruiting until her health began limiting her ability to travel comfortably. She began researching and learned about Dr. Shefali Tsabary and Conscious Parenting (CP), eventually earning her certificate in the Conscious Parenting Method in 2020, becoming a Conscious Parenting Coach, conducting CP workshops, and coaching individual parents.
Sylvia, who holds degrees in communication, makes her home in the San Francisco Bay Area.
